From Les Lettres Francaises, 1953 (This was the leading cultural journal of the Communist Party in France.) Windows of Paris At the Craven Gallery until June 11, is an American painter who executes in a naive manner but, incidentally, with plenty of talent. There are pictures of the oldest and most touching of the Parisian shops (delicatessens, butchers, public baths, little cafes) before which pose their agreeable proprietors. It’s pure fabrication which exploits the tender feelings of the tourists for the value of the antiquated streets. |
