Bob would often create figures in graphite and transfer them to his 'canvas' (actually most of his paintings were done on gessoed masonite). That is the case with this pencil sketch which was the basis for the faces in Les Forains, which follows in our gallery. Another technique he used involved creating figures on small pieces of paper which were then used to experiment with different placements within the composition of his painting. |
